1 Dead, Several Hurt In Brooklyn Apartment Fire

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — Authorities say one person has died and eight other people were injured in an early morning fire in Brooklyn.

More than 100 firefighters responded to the 4-alarm fire, which broke out around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday on Flatbush Avenue in Prospect Heights.

Video from the scene showed smoke billowing from the four-story building. A fire department spokesman said the main body of the fire has been knocked down but firefighters remained at the scene.

The identity of the person who was killed has not yet been released.

Authorities said three people suffered serious injuries and five had minor injuries, including two NYPD officers who suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to a hospital.

About 30 people were also displaced.
